We help to obtain sustained competitive advantage through innovation while enhancing business capabilities to build resilience to future challenges.
The Oslo Manual 2018 (OECD Guidelines for Collecting, Reporting and Using Data on Innovation, 4th Edition) defines:
Design characteristics and knowledge-capturing products are (since 2018) included in product innovations.
Transformations and Change are nothing less than business process innovations (when implemented). Yet, product innovations and business process innovations have different dynamics as the environments (i.e., market versus firm) in which the implementation takes place are vastly different.
The Oslo Manual defines: "An innovation is a new or improved product or process (or combination thereof) that differs significantly from the unit’s previous products or processes and that has been made available to potential users (product) or brought into use by the unit (process)".
The Delft University of Technology pioneered design thinking in its present meaning in the 1990s, and design and consulting firms like IDEO further developed the concept.
Summarized, design thinking is an agile (lean) human-centered approach to the innovation process that integrates the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.
For product innovations, design thinking helps to create desirable goods and services for consumers and customers.
For business process innovations, i.e., Transformations and Change, design thinking helps to develop engaging measures and business processes for employees and other stakeholders.
In both types of innovation design thinking assists in optimizing the communication such that the implementation runs smoothly. This will help to reduce the high failure rate in Innovation and Change.
